Welcome to our 2017 season
The Producers – a Mel Brooks Musical
Our second show for 2017 will be performed September 29th – October 7th.
The Producers is a musical adapted by Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan from Brooks’ 1968 film of the same name, with lyrics written by Brooks and music composed by Brooks and arranged by Glen Kelly and Doug Besterman.
As in the film, the story concerns two theatrical producers who scheme to get rich by overselling interests in a Broadway flop. Complications arise when the show unexpectedly turns out to be successful. The humour of the show draws on ridiculous accents, caricatures of homosexuals and Nazis, and many show business in-jokes.
Failing producer Max and his accountant, Leo scam a group of elderly women out of their nest eggs by convincing them to invest in a terribly offensive Third Reich-themed musical secretly intended to flop the moment it opens. But when high-brow Broadway audiences mistakenly assume “Springtime for Hitler” is a satire, Max finds himself with the critical acclaim that has long eluded him — and the biggest hit of his career.
Our first performance for 2017 was Soundscape – a Musical Odyssey, with 4 performances over May 19th, 20th & 21st.
“Soundscape” featured an eclectic selection of iconic music drawn from operetta, broadway, popular (swing, rock, jazz and avant-garde) musical sources.
The show was presented in our popular cabaret style with a well-balanced blend of solos, ensemble and chorus singing while offering our audience a delicious afternoon tea or supper served during interval.
